How to Use the Lookah Seahorse: Every Model, Step by Step

Posted by Vigil Carter on 27th Oct 2026

The Lookah Seahorse is a family of electric nectar collectors: a pen with a quartz or ceramic tip that heats itself, so you touch the tip to your concentrate and inhale. There are a lot of models, and the good news is that they all work the same way. This guide covers the shared controls first, then what is different about each Seahorse we carry.

Quick start: how to use a Lookah Seahorse

Lookah Seahorse Queen electric nectar collector with its glass bubbler

  1. Five quick clicks on the power button turns it on.
  2. Two quick clicks changes the voltage. The light color tells you which one you are on.
  3. Take the magnetic cover off the tip.
  4. Hold the button, and once the tip is hot, touch it to a small amount of concentrate and inhale as the vapor rises.
  5. Five quick clicks turns it off when you are done.

That works on every Seahorse below. The one exception worth knowing: on the Seahorse X, check the manual for the voltage click count, because Lookah's own X page gives a different number from every other Seahorse.

Buttons and settings

5 quick clicksOn or off.
2 quick clicksCycles the three voltages: 3.2V, 3.6V, then 4.0V on the King and Queen or 4.1V on the 2.0, Pro Plus, X and Max. The light color shows the setting.
HoldHeats the tip for as long as you hold, up to about 20 seconds at a time.
3 quick clicksSession mode, hands free: the light flashes while it preheats for about 15 seconds, then it holds the heat for another 25 to 30 seconds depending on the model and switches back to normal.

Which voltage to use: Lookah's own advice is lower for flavor and higher for bigger vapor. Start at 3.2V and only go up if you want more.

Step by step

  1. Charge it. Every model here charges by USB-C except the Max, which uses micro-USB. On the 2.0 a flashing red light means it is charging, and solid green or cyan means it is full.
  2. If it has a bubbler, add water first. On the Max, fill the glass so the water just covers the percolation holes, and no higher.
  3. Turn it on with five quick clicks and pick a voltage with two.
  4. Take the tip cover off and hold the button to heat the tip.
  5. Touch the hot tip to your concentrate and inhale slowly as the vapor rises. On the Queen, which stands on the table, lift your wax container up to the tip instead.
  6. Burn off what is left. Lookah says to run one more heat cycle after each dab so nothing sits on the tip. Then put the cover back on.

Using the Seahorse X as a dab pen: take off the bubbler or mouthpiece, put a small amount of concentrate in the 710 quartz dish coil with the dab tool, put the top back on and heat. As a nectar collector, you skip the loading and dip the quartz tip instead.

Tips that actually change the result

  • Small amounts. A quick touch of the tip is enough. Dragging it through a big pile wastes concentrate and gunks up the tip.
  • Let it finish before you go back for more. Inhale until the vapor stops, then dip again.
  • Do the burn-off every time. Lookah says build-up on the tip or in the airway is what ruins the taste.
  • Use the tip cover. It protects the quartz and keeps a still-warm tip away from your pocket.

Cleaning a Seahorse

After every use: run the extra heat cycle above, then wipe the tip with a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol. Lookah notes it is easier while the device is still warm.

The airway: take the tip off first, then run the cleaning brush, dipped in isopropyl alcohol, through the air path. Never use the brush on the tip itself; Lookah warns that it can damage it.

Deep clean: unscrew the tip and soak it, with any glass bubbler or mouthpiece, in isopropyl alcohol (91% or higher) for 15 to 30 minutes. Rinse the glass with warm water, and let everything dry completely before it goes back on. Never put the body in liquid.

Not working? Check these first

  • Five clicks and no light, or a red flash. It needs charging. Lookah's first fix on the 2.0 is simply to recharge it.
  • It stops heating on its own. That is the safety cutoff (about 20 seconds when you hold the button, and the end of the session in session mode). Let go and start again.
  • The flavor has gone burnt or flat. The tip needs a burn-off and a clean, or it has reached the end of its life. See the coils below.

Which coils fit

Lookah makes five Seahorse tip coils, numbered I to V, all on a 510 thread. Lookah says the King, Queen and Max take all five, and the Pro Plus and 2.0 take the others besides the one they ship with. The Seahorse X also uses 710 quartz dish coils for dab-pen mode.
